What are Antipsychotic medications?
Medications classified in the category that are used to treat mental health illnesses such as schizophrenia caused by bipolar disorder, are known as Antipsychotic medications. This medication affects the working of certain brain chemicals to improve patient’s conditions. It is believed that antipsychotics work by altering the effect of certain chemicals in the brain, called dopamine, serotonin, noradrenaline and acetylcholine. In normal conditions these chemicals play an important role in deciding the behavioral pattern of a person. By affecting these chemicals change in behavior, mood and emotions can be observed. The uses of antipsychotic drugs are also discovered helpful in managing severe depression and severe anxiety. These medications are also known as tranquillizers.
